‘My Journey to Knock Shrine’ began in 1945, when I was nine years old. I suddenly became ill and developed tuberculosis. After almost a year in bed, I had a near-death experience. Travelled through space with great speed, like I was in a long dark tunnel, eventually I arrived at this beautiful and peaceful place. Miraculously, my tuberculosis suddenly almost disappeared. In a few short weeks, I had returned to school at Mullinahoe, catching up on my school work, and playing with my school pals once again.
Ardboe, is a rural area in the County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, a short distance from the shores of Lough Neagh. Close by was Cluntoe military airfield now disused. During the war army jeeps and lorries had been constantly on the move. Gone was the constant noise of the bomber and fighter aircraft. The roads were now quiet and peaceful again as if reclaimed after world war two. It was in the summer of 1946 while reading my prayer book and walking upon part of this airfield, that I saw the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Eight years afterwards while I was on remand at Crumlin Road prison Belfast, the Blessed Virgin Mary reappeared at Ardboe and in front of many witnesses. I was married in the late fifties, again my health suffered because of a bomb and fire explosion. I developed epilepsy, soon after I was admitted to a psychiatric hospital, suffering from Post-traumatic stress disorder. What can save I and my young family now?
